Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Standard Prime Lens

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Standard Prime Lens is compact, lightweight fixed focal length lens that is ideal for everyday photos. With a large f/1.8 aperture, it makes for a perfect lens in low-light situations and to produce creative background blur. It's optimal for everything from portraits to fast-moving subjects like children and pets. Continuous autofocus is super-smooth and quiet, thanks to Canon's gear-type stepping motor. That means you can shoot video clips without worrying about hearing the noise of the lens.

Focus Ring Placement

What really sets this lens apart is the newly updated focus ring placement. If you need a lens that can tackle many situations and give you maximum versatility, you can't do much better than this Nifty-Fifty from Canon!

Focal Range of 50mm

In the world of photography the 50mm lens is the absolute must-have for any collection. This lens has a fixed focal range of 50mm and is absolutely perfect for an array of uses such as portrait, wedding, detail shots, beautifully manipulated depth-of-field shots and so much more. By keeping the focal range fixed, this lens allows for a much wider aperture range, this is what allows for the depth-of field focus manipulation and the wonderful shots where the subject-matter is crisp and clear while the background is a beautiful blur.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Standard Prime Lens

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Standard Prime Lens SKU: 0570C002

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Packs a Punch for the Price! Listen. Buy this lens. It is so cheap compared to the other Canon lens and you can get stunning pictures with it. Stunning. At the price point and for what you can achieve with this lens, I would highly recommend adding this to your camera bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this lens This lens is great due to the fact that it captures so much light. Also, its background blur is amazing. This is a great lens for a low price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens This is a great lens for anyone who wants to start with. It is very affordable and high quality. The only downside is that it doesn’t focus fast enough for continuous shooting, bu that is the only downside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Lens! I’m so glad I purchased this lens. I’m in film school and on a limited budget, but I wanted a quality lens. I make documentaries, and I recently used this lens. What a difference a lens makes! Beautiful footage!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, loud focus ring and tight connection I needed a camera with a large aperture for practicing photography in dark city scenes. This works great at f/1.8, and the bokeh looks great. When the lens focuses, either automatically or manually, it's quite loud. I read that in some other reviews too, and they were quite serious. I thought "it can't be that bad", but it's quite noticeable. Both the lens I tried at the store and the lens I walked home with have really rough threads. What I mean by that is when twisting it onto my T7, it feels like I'm cross-threading it; it just doesn't feel right. It still works every time, but my 18-55, 70-300, and 35 macro twist on with ease. I'm not sure if I'm unlucky with the two 50s I put on my camera, or if there was some kind of manufacturing defect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The cheapest but yet the best The nifty fifty is the one of the most popular lens on the market. It is also one of the cheapest and yet, the quality is here. It provides sharp photo with a crazy bokeh at low aperture. I use it for astrophotography too and results are great. Just be careful around f/1.8-2, chromatic aberration and coma appear on the edges (in very low light conditions like astrophotography), but nothing to be concerned if you center well your object.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens! (especially for the price) I’ve had this lens for almost a year now, it’s been great for both my outdoor shoots and my studio photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pros and Cons to this lens While this lens can produce some amazing photos that are super sharp, the downside is this lens has horrible chromatic aberration. But it's a really great bang for you buck and if you can work around that, it's a good little lens to have. I personally have troubles with the focus. It doesn't like to use the face tracking with my EOS R but when everything works, it works really really great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Lens I've had this lens for about a month and I absolutely love it! It is sharper than my higher-end lenses and has a wide aperture. This lens takes great pictures and I think that every photographer should have this lens in their arsenal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for beginners I was provided a camera to mess around and practice with, which came with 2 lenses. i loved it. But something was missing. I was told i need a nifty fifty. So i did some research and came to this lense. I saw the reviews and thought ok i need to get this and try it. for the price it was reasonable. Since ive had it, My portrait shots are sooo much better. its not great for movement, but when captured it is absolutely great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from STM that's LOUD It's an STM lens, but there's nothing silent in it. I can hear it focusing (hunting) in the other room, behind closed door. The reason I bought it - aside the 1.8 - is that the ad says it's an STM lens and expected to be (near) silent. For comparison I have STM, L lenses, some cheaper lenses (including 3rd party) and none is this LOUD. Aside that, it's an ok lens. Not that sharp at 1.8, but can live w it and for the price can't complain, however if Canon advertises it as near silent than - unless it's faulty - I expect near silent... If it would be quieter (not even silent like other STMs) I would love to keep it, as it could be a great walk around portrait, low light, light travel lens.. The only way I could submit this if I allowed DATA COLLECTION FOR THIS SITE! It was complaining about an adblocker but that's not the issue..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a pro! Ok. I bought an m50 a month ago. Not bad! I upgraded from a Nikon d3200 with kit lenses. I never felt like I was able to get that "wow" picture. Well the m50 didn't do that with the kit lens. So instead of spending more money on a "bigger better" camera I did some research. Surprised to find out that the lens makes the camera. Not the other way around. So I bought the 50mm 1.8 and a speed booster. My first shot was absolutely stunning and creamy I'm going to go to a full sensor camera one day so I'll prob just keep using speed booster and buying ef mount lenses until I do. I don't see why I would put money into m mounts anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Took a chance I bought this lens based on the ratings of others and I'm glad that I did. I always check specs. before buying any thing. Even though this is not an L series lens, for my pocket book and in my mind this lens would be hard to beat - so there! Say what you will?
