Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera (Body Only)

EOS R6 Mark II Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

Introducing a standard full-frame camera evolved with hybrid features for still and movie shooting. The EOS R6 Mark II enables various photographic expressions that transcend boundaries between recording personal life and professional production purposes, as well as between photo shooting and movie shooting. Achieve creativity in everyday life with the EOS R6 Mark II.

High Image Quality Featuring a New 24.2 Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS Sensor

The EOS R6 Mark II features improved resolution compared to its predecessor. A Canon-developed 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with approx. 24.2 effective megapixels enables the camera to capture sharp and detailed images, even in low-light scenarios. Regardless of conditions — whether day or night, indoor or outdoor — dark portions of the image, even at high ISO speeds and increased sensitivity, are rendered with low noise.

DIGIC X Image Processor

A powerful DIGIC X Image Processor enables high-performance operation and coordination of processes such as Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Image Stabilization, image processing, and video functionality. The DIGIC X Image Processor helps ensure your photos and videos look sharp and maintain high-resolution with minimal noise or grain.

High-Speed Continuous Shooting

For the first time among full-frame Canon EOS cameras, the EOS R6 Mark II introduces RAW Burst Mode1 at up to 30 fps. By turning on RAW Burst Mode’s pre-shooting, shooting can start slightly before (about 0.5 seconds earlier) the shutter button is fully pressed. Coupled with high-speed continuous shooting at speeds of up to 12 fps with mechanical shutter, and up to 40 fps using electronic (silent) shutter, the camera can capture the split-second details between a subject’s movements. This is great for dynamic action photos such as athletes, animals, and vehicles in motion or even capturing momentary changes in facial expressions for portraits.

Blazing Fast Autofocus

The highly responsive Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system covers up to approximately 100% x 100% of the picture area, breaking the image into up to 1,053 automatically-selected AF zones during Whole Area AF. The result is outstanding AF coverage, and the compositional freedom to focus sharply on a subject nearly anywhere in the frame.

Highly Accurate Subject Detection

Developed using Deep Learning Technology, horses, trains, and airplanes are newly detectable, in addition to conventional subjects like people, animals including dogs, cats and birds, and vehicles — cars and motorcycles — especially in a motorsports environment.2,3 For more ease of use, Auto mode is now available, in which the camera automatically selects the type of subject without the need to switch the Subject Detection setting in the menu.

Head, Face, and Eye Detection

Even in situations where many cameras may struggle to detect a subject, the EOS R6 Mark II can locate and focus upon a person’s head, face, or eye when the Subject Detection menu is set to People, allowing more ease of use, fast acquisition of your subject, and improvements to accuracy when capturing videos or still images. Additional control is now available for detecting the subject’s left or right eye – which can be also programmed to a Custom Button making it easy to focus on the preferred eye in the moment.

Animal Detection

The EOS R6 Mark II can effectively track the whole body, face, or eye of cats, dogs, birds, and now horses, for speed and precision — regardless of the animal’s size, posture, or orientation of the face.2

Optimized for Video

With ample video recording features such as 6K oversampled uncropped 4K movie at up to 60 fps, Full-HD High-frame rate movie recording at up to 180 fps4, and AF tracking, the EOS R6 Mark II can meet the needs of hobbyists and experienced video content creators alike.

Continuous Movie Recording That Exceeds 30 Minutes

The EOS R6 Mark II can continuously record Full-HD video for up to 6 hours, allowing you to set up your video and keep your project rolling without worrying about it stopping.5 You’ll also be able to continuously record Full-HD 179.82p up to 60 minutes or more, and 4K 59.94p up to 50 minutes or more.

Features for Advanced Creators

Canon Log 3, HDR PQ, in-camera Full-HD proxy recording, and 6K 59.94p RAW data output to an external storage device6 provides the image quality to support various production purposes.

Focus breathing correction (with compatible Canon RF lenses)7 automatically compensates for changes in the angle of view caused by focus operations during movie recording.

Simultaneous recording of movies and stills to dual UHS-II SD card slots enables a backup to be created, so you can shoot with confidence.

In-body Image Stabilizer

Equipped with movie digital IS and 5-axis in-body IS, the EOS R6 Mark II enables smooth movie shooting with less camera-shake blur. With up to 8 stops of shake correction with Coordinated IS — combining In-body Image Stabilization, and optical Image Stabilization in certain Canon RF lenses — the camera makes handheld shooting easier at slower shutter speeds and in low-light situations.8 To counter large, low-frequency camera movements, such as recording while walking, there’s also electronic Movie Digital IS, which can be independently activated.

Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD

Featuring a 3.0-inch, 1.62 million dot Clear View LCD II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD, the EOS R6 Mark II makes it easy to compose and shoot from virtually any angle.

Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera (Body Only)

Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) SKU: 5666C002

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Deal, wish it came in the right box Disappointed in the packaging, I thought it would at least come in a similar box. Its a great deal but I was giving it as a gift, so I would think canon would be able to find the same box the camera came in not another model.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would NOT recommend for wedding photographers I’ve used this camera for about a year, including one full wedding season, and unfortunately, I can’t recommend it. While the image quality is solid and the autofocus is a noticeable improvement over my Mark IV, the camera’s reliability leaves much to be desired. It crashes constantly, which has been incredibly frustrating. I used the Mark IV for five years without experiencing any similar issues, so I’m particularly disappointed that Canon released a product with such glaring flaws. I’ve given it 2 stars solely for the image quality and autofocus improvements, but the reliability problems make it hard to justify this camera for demanding situations like weddings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for commercial work the R6ii is great camera body to use with strobes. I shoot HS teams with a 4-5 light setup. Pairing with my gear was pretty easy, and I was able to tweak the viewfinder so as to not experience blackout. Also tethers easily to Lightroom. Pretty happy with it overall, and colors straight out of camera look great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I don’t miss my R5. This is a great camera! My R5 was stolen so I got the R6 mk2 and I wasn’t sure I could live with the 24 megapixels. As it turns out there are several things I like about it more than my R5. I shot some images at 25600 iso and I was amazed at how clean and usable the images were (when exposed correctly). In my estimation the R6MK2 is about a full stop better when it comes to shooting high ISO. I also think the dynamic range is slightly better. It has the same autofocus system as the R3 and it is better than the already great R5. The raw burst mode is pretty cool as it packs kind of like the pre shooting mode on the R5 mk2 (although it is a bit more cumbersome). The 40 frames per second shooting speed is ridiculously good and I don’t hit the buffer that often. I have only been shooting in electronic shutter mode and the rolling shutter is very minimal (I actually haven’t noticed at all) and it’s better than my R5. I don’t shoot much video but I can say that it’s nice to not have a 30 minute maximum time limit of continuous video shooting. There isn’t an over heating issue either. I’ve read and been told that the 6k over sampling is better than the 8k of the R5 but again I’m not much of a video shooter. There are many other smaller features that the R5 doesn’t have as well. Overall the only drawback is the 24 megapixel sensor not being a 45 megapixel sensor. But I have tried some heavy cropping to test it and I was very pleasantly surprised at the detail I got. Plus if you have Gigapixel you can upsize cropped images. So ultimately I honestly like it better than my R5… that is strange to say but it really is an amazing camera especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most practical camera body Long-time Canon user - 35mm SLR from 1968, APS-C DSLRs since 2005, R7 since 2022. Just added the R6 for better low-light performance and more reliable autofocus. Keeping the R7 for hiking and as a daytime teleconverter, but the 1/3 reduction in megapixels is well outweighed by the ability to shoot at higher ISOs. The two identical v90 SDXC card slots allow shooting a real-time backup, something that the models with one CF card slots can't do. Get one of those if you're a sports or high-spec video shooter, but the R6 is the sweet spot for the generalist photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super super good! Great camera! This thing is a workhorse indeed. Still trying to figure out the astro applications it has but the IBIS is phenomenal and the FPS is insane. I can handhold a 1200mm lens and get decent sharpness from this when combined with lens stabilization. It's amazing. I use this with Sigma lenses and they DID need a firmware update for things to work properly. You may notice a noise when the camera is off and it shakes, this is normal.. no worries. The build is solid and has plenty of accessories like the grip, which is expensive and probably a little over priced, but very useful. UHS II, V90 cards work best but V60 will be fine, it'll just slow your write speed down and will hinder your overall max number of frames when doing bursts. Anything less will not allow you to do what you expect of it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good for wedding photography and videographyy. Crashes when switching from photo to video settings, don’t do this during a wedding ceremony or you’ll be in trouble… yes this did happen to me and luckily removing the battery and reinstalling saved me in time. Battery lasts longer, auto focus is great. Buttons have been switched around and I hate it actually. Wish they had just left the buttons the same at the r5 and r6… big issue for me. Ultimately the crashing is bad news if you are a wedding photographer and videographer like myself. I have my back ups and don’t switch settings in situations like ceremony with this camera anymore. Wish I could exchange for or get a refund..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera, but not quite perfect. The image quality is outstanding. The high burst rate is useful only at times. There's a little problem with hummingbirds and ducks with fast wings with the Electronic Shutter. The IBIS is doubtful. I'm having a little trouble with EF lenses and pointing straight down. I'm only getting 3 stops at best. Not quite enough sensor pixels for a lot of cropping. Overall, I'd say I really like it though. I just have to be aware of the limitations.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Got one focus bracketing did not work. Got one and focus bracketing did not work. It would not save the composited photo. Canon could not fix and could not replace it and didn't seem to concerned about it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from R6 Mark III review. It is a nice camera. However after looking at several videos I still can't figure out how to get the focus points set for how I need to use it for shooting sports. I want a fixed focus point that will stay fixed until I move it. The manual hasn't been helpful at all. I need it to be like my 7D for focusing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What more do you want if you are not a professional? I bought this camera after owning the Canon R. I have had it for almost two years and appreciate all of its features. I also had to have an R5 in my arsenal. Guess what, I sold it as I like the R6 MKii better. The batteries last longer, the cards are easier to find if you need them. I put a RG-10 grip adapter on my unit and love it. The camera almost feels like an R3. No complaints on this unit, actually thinking of a second one just to have as a spare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great set of features with little sacrifice at the price. A few quirks Camera bought in December 2023 to replace the aging 5D mark III and encouraged by experience with already owned R10. Excellent set of features, a lot of user customization options and compatibility with EF lenses made me feel at home right away. There are some minor quirks that lower the score however. What I like: + image quality, plain and simple; + responsive operation with a lot of customization (you can assign mode of operation for all dials and most of the buttons and change information on display/EVF as you see fit) + absolutely great burst modes, even with mechanical shutter, large buffer and full support for UHS-II cards; + no problem using EF lenses with mount ring, assortment of cheap(er) RF lenses grows as months go by; + new features are quite intuitive to use but the camera still maintains a familiar Canon look and feel; + built-in wireless communication and flawless remote control; What I don't like: + my camera started exhibiting IBIS issues after just 4 months of use which, while never being officially acknowledged, went away with sensor assembly replacement (under warranty); + when using digital shutter there's a very subtle banding (and to be fair, on properly exposed photos will most likely never be noticeable unless you're know what to look for, but nevertheless, and I confirmed it with a few R6m2 owners, it's there); + it was the first ever Canon camera that I experienced crashing (just once though).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Fast I bought this camera to replace my 5D3. I have shot 3 Little League baseball games and I must say I am very impressed! Great, fast focus and adapts well with my EF glass. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I LOVE This Camera (mostly) I love this camera, but I can only give it 3 stars for some of the issues that it has. First of all, I now have 2 of them for wildlife photography. They replaced my R3, my R5 and my R7. I love the speed (fps), the focusing accuracy, the quality of the sensor and the light weight. What I don't like is the rolling shutter (it's particularly obvious if you have light posts, buildings or fences in your background), the small buffer (I can get about 115 shots before the buffer fills) and the fact that it has SD card slots instead of at least 1 CFX card slot to help clear that buffer faster. I find the quality of the images to be superior. This is a high quality sensor that allows me to shoot at high shutter speed and high ISOs when necessary. If 2 of the above 3 weaknesses were resolved, this camera would get 5 stars from me. I can't wait to see what's in store for the rumored R6 Mark III.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Focus issues from day one. 25+ year Canon user. I bought this over a year ago and have been nothing but frustrated with it since. I shoot for as the Communication Director and Yearbook Advisor for a school and am taking ALL kinds of shots at many different types of events. I have been a Canon user for over 25 years and this R6 is by far the worst camera I have ever used. The focusing issues are the worst - this camera can NOT choose what to focus on ever. Regret this purchase and am selling it. I advise you not to buy until they get the mirrorless technology more dialed in and these cameras start getting better reviews.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a really nice camera. Really like this body in comparison to my R6 Mark 1. Battery life has improved drastically, and the extra megapixles are greatly appreciated. My only complaint is that in 40fps shooting RAW you get 63 - 66 frames. A bigger buffer would be the icing on the cake. All in all it's an upgrade to my original R6.
Date published: 2024-04-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A noticeable improvement over the R6 I've owned many Canon DSLR's and currently have the R7 and until recently, the R6. I'm primarily a nature and wildlife photography, but enjoy taking family portraits and travel pics as well. The R7 does an excellent job taking care of my wildlife genre, but I wasn't as satisfied with landscapes and portraits so bought an R6 as the R5 was a bit of overkill for me. I love a full frame for landscapes and people. Don't get me wrong the R6 is a very good camera, but the 20Mp sensor was just a little bit lacking for my tastes and the autofocus wasn't as good as the R7 which was little annoying. After considerable thought the R6ii seemed like it might fit the bill a little better, but I didn't expect too much difference. I pretty much always buy Canon refurbished cameras and lenses as they represent such a good value for my lifestyle. And sometimes they are an incredible value, especially around the holidays. Essentially it is like buying new, but without the original box and the original price. Well it was better than I imagined it would be. The 24mp sensor acts like the 30mp sensor that was in my 5D Mark IV. The autofocus is substantially better and the low light characteristics are still in line with the R6. All positives. The R6ii is a very noticeable improvement over the R6. I am not a fan of the on/off/lock switch as I could do without the lock part of it. At first I really didn't like the Video/still switch on the left side, but after using it I didn't mind it at all. But mostly it is typical Canon. Well designed, easy to use, yet extremely customizable, and just works beautifully. Mostly I have been using it with many of the smaller primes and a few L lenses. I really like it with the 1.4x and the 100-500 and the 1/4x and the 100-400. The R6ii handles diffraction so much better than the R7 which you would expect. It simply just fills the void that R7 creates. I also don't have near the problem with rolling shutter as I did with the R6 and do with the R7. I have zero regrets stepping up from the R6 to the R6ii and would highly recommend this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refurbished looks new I wasn’t sure what to expect from a refurbished camera body from Canon but I figured it’s coming right from the manufacturer so maybe their standards are higher than some random camera shop. Well, surprise surprise, the package arrived and the camera was very nicely packed with bubble wrap. As soon as I unwrapped it I realized that the body was brand new! There wasn’t a scratch or mark on it. The camera was in beautiful shape! I was quite happy about that. I saved about $500 by getting a refurbished body which looked basically new. I was a little worried about a clunking sound but discovered on google that the noise is the image stabilization device moving when the camera is powered off. The camera powered on normally and the screen was perfectly clean and new and beautiful! I’m super happy with Canon!!!
