A well-balanced wide-angle, fixed focal length lens
The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM makes for a lightweight and comfortable, all-day lens. It's ideal for capturing a variety of subjects and is a powerful lens that affordably expands the EOS R system.
Fast and bright
A bright f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for great control over depth of field and bokeh, low-light shooting and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus.
Excellent image quality
Taking advantage of the Canon RF lens mount, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens offers great optical quality. Its optical design includes an aspheric element, and an Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass element for high image quality from center to corner, and Canon Super Spectra Coating to minimize ghosting and flare
Minimum focus distance of approx. 5.5 In. and close-up magnification 0.5x
MACRO With its impressive 5.5 In. minimum focusing distance, the RF24mm F1.8 IS STM lens is designed for working up-close and personal with subjects to document even the most minute of details. And because it has a maximum magnification of 0.5x, you can even experience close-up 1:2 half life-size macro photography so you can capture a variety of macro subjects with stunning results.
Optical image stabilization - up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction
For consistently sharp results, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM features built-in optical Image Stabilization, providing enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS allows for up to 6.5 stops of correction. This means more reliable handheld performance and clearer detail in low-light situations, without having to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed. Because of its enhanced stabilization, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM can also help minimize the need for a tripod.
Lead Screw-type STM
Canon's stepping motor (STM) technology is especially effective at producing smooth, quiet autofocus during video recording, even in low light. This lens is a perfect choice for multi-media content creation with quiet autofocus. And, STM focus drive provides responsive, quick - and exceptionally quiet - AF during still-image shooting, as well.
Control Ring for Direct Setting Changes
The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens incorporates a control ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and more. Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's main dial and quick control dial, the control ring has a tactile, easily distinguished surface and features a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder. For photographers and moviemakers who would prefer a silent control ring, the clicking mechanism can be removed by a Canon service provider for a fee.
Impressively compact and light at only 0.6 lbs/270g.
The compact size and light weight of the lens makes it an ideal companion on long hikes and excursions. It is also handy for a day out in the city and when you want to be creative with multiple prime lenses.
Circular 9-blade aperture for beautiful, soft backgrounds
You'll have no problem when shooting close-up images in getting that creative, fun and pleasantly smooth out-of-focus background blur we all love with the circular 9-blade aperture. Subjects will stand out, and the background provides a beautiful backdrop that's visually appealing in itself.
