Garmin inReach Mini 2 Satellite Communicator (Black)

Garmin inReach Mini 2 Satellite Communicator (Black) SKU: 010-02602-01

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not great for communicating with others Did a hunt in backcountry with no cell service. Three of us had these. Communication via text was intermittent, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Not very user friendly either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, keeps me safe when driving in locations without cell service.... I live in a National Park so this happens quite often..... and during any of my big back country adventures!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great great great product, allows me to stay in touch with loved ones no matter where i am without using sat phone minutes. the map and staying on route functions are minimal but helpful and charming. unfortunately very expensive and requires a subscription to actually use sat messaging but cool technology

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Somewhat on the fence with messaging Sending messages other than presets is a pain, somewhat old fashioned - like doing so over an old flip phone. Have experienced a considerable time lag (hours) in receiving presets even with open skies. Not good on an emergency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I took this with me on a 5 day backcountry hunt and it worked flawlessly. I was able to text with my wife letting her know I was ok and she was able to see my location with the check in position. The ability to text through the app on my iPhone made communication very easy. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Backpacking Must! Worked great for my two backpacking trips. It's great to know if you need help its coming.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No plan options for families I bought a second device for the kids so that they could go on separate trips in the backcountry. I was disappointed to learn that Garmin requires the purchase of an entirely separate account with its own monthly fees for each device. There’s no ability to add additional devices to your plan (unless you deactivate the initial device). They should have some sort of family plan. I returned the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comes in handy I got the inReach for ease of mind when I go to very remote places with zero service. I can drop a pin and text my husband. The coordinates and navigation are very accurate. Having it really puts my mind at ease knowing my loved ones and help can be reached easily if needed. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second inreach Best tool for backcountry peace of mind. Will be taking on my third thru hike this year - wanted to update to the better battery and user interface. The 1 is still super solid but alas.... I'm a gear nerd

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable product Garmin stands by its products. Since this is for emergencies and safety I font want to take any chances on electronics

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I upgrade to the Mini2 This was a great upgrade, transmits messages much faster than my old unit and the battery lasts close to 2 weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The inreach mini 2 gives me piece of mind on all of my sketchiest adventures. My parents are also a huge fan of knowing where I'm at when I'm "way out there".

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Interface is impossible Its a nice small package but unless you use your cell, it's impossible to write and send a message. Horrible interface. Even the preset massages are hard to send. Creates a dependency on you cell phone which defeats the purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy and dependable I take this with me every time I go on a hike! This device provides so much peace of mind when heading in to the backcountry, as well as providing a convenient way to check-in with my partner and parents. I appreciate the simple usage and have frequently used it to get weather updates or information I need for the day. Recommended for everyone heading to places with spotty coverage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use Super easy to use. Gives me a great sense of security while solo hunting. Able to give check ins to my husband while out of service. Tracking feature was also used a lot this season.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from inReach® Mini 2 I bought this a month ago. I took it on my first solo trip recently. The area I was in had near zero cell service. It was nice having the peace of mind knowing that if needed I could reach out to someone for help or they could contact me if needed. The only complaint I would have for this device is more related to the service plans. I won’t be using it every month and wish I could suspend the service in the off times without fees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! It was great to be able to text my wife from the middle of the wilderness. Last time I backpacked, and had to change my route because of lack of water, she was concerned and I only had the preprogrammed messages available to send.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential Item for Adventurers This item should be on hand anytime you are in the backcountry! I solo hike and backpack all the time, and have had a couple close calls over the years. I have been able to use this device to keep in contact with friends, and arrange for them to pick me up at different exit points when I was either sick or injured. It's also great piece of mind to know I have connection to search and rescue, in the hopefully unlikely event that I am ever unable to self-rescue. I also like that I am able to receive updated weather reports specific to my location through this device.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for giving piece of mind. it struggles though (perhaps due to solar flares) to accurately track your path at times.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Battery life I bought the in-reach mini 2 specifically as an alternate communication device for when I take my boat off shore. I was 35 miles off shore and was able to track my position and send messages. The unit I bought was a refurbished in-reach mini 2. My only issue is the battery life is only good for 2, maybe 3 days on a full charge. I'll be sending it back and getting a new one. Otherwise no other issues. The unit came in a generic box with all the parts and instructions. Then I selected a garmin subscription plan I felt was suitable for my wants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Changer......literally I feel connected wherever I go in the backcountry adding a new found sense of safety.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Safety Partner I've just finished my fifth hike with device. I bought it for safety reasons because I hike alone and cell service is not always available. I've steu the device to automatically start tracking when I turn it on. I also purchased the least expensive subscription plan that allows me to use the SOS emergency service and to send/receive 50 text messages by satellite per month. There are two hone apps that is highly recommended, but not required, to make using the device easier. The first app is MESSENGER, which simplifies the sending/receiving satellite texts, the MINI 2 device has no keyboard. The second app is EXPLORE, it simplifies and displays navigation maps on your phone. So the MINI 2 is an emergency communigation AND navigation device. It works, but the down-side is the user interface and tiny screen. It is certainly rugged, and the battery lasts many days. As far as I can find, most of its features are only accessible via the device, but these features are some-what hidden. You should practice and review youtube reviews before any big travels. The confusion of using the device is that from the so called HOME page, you get to options via a MAIN menu AND other options are accessed by moving through PAGES. The manual could be clearer and explain by example what some of the options should be used. It would be nice too if it discussed saving your hike's routes for later use. There are some clever features for example, sending pre-written text's which saves you typing. The software also allows you share your hike in real-time with someone. Soo much to still learn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Garmin In Reach mini 2 Was getting ready to go to the Grand Canyon and driving from Southwest Colorado knowing I would be going across the Rez with no cell service for quite some time, I went ahead and did lots of research and read a lot of reviews in the Garmin in reach mini two was my choice Much easier to set up than I thought, and then in my contacts popped up all the other people that had one which made me feel terrific Apparently, it is the most popular one! I owned many other Garmin GPS products over the years and I trust them implicitly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I live in an area without reliable cell coverage in many areas. Now I have a way to send check-ins outside coverage areas so my family doesn’t worry, and a reliable way to communicate should I wind up stranded! It’s on my pack for my hikes and in my glovebox when Im on the road. What a great device!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Painful to actually use My family bought this for me. I have struggled to follow operating instructions. The size of the Owners Manual print is too small to be useful. I am an huge Garmin fan and I own several 12 “ Garmin chart plotters, Montana GPS, Quatix 7 smartwatch, Sportsman 302 Open with full Garmin electronics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's too small. Awesome device..... It works when I'm out fishing and my cellphone service doesn't work. When I'm too far from home Hawaii, Molokai. I can still contact to close friends and family that I doing fine.
