Leica Q2 Full Frame Compact Digital Camera (Reporter Edition)
The Leica Q2 is equipped with a 47.3-megapixel full-frame sensor, integrated weather sealing throughout the body, a built-in Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 lens, a completely new electronic viewfinder, lightning-fast autofocus and burst shooting, 4K video, a changed button layout, and a streamlined design.
Reporter Edition
The Leica Q2 Reporter continues the long-standing tradition of integral design specifically crafted to meet the challenges of reportage and press photography. Along with its durable exterior, the camera has a discreet appearance, allowing the photographer to work without attracting unwanted attention.
Kelvar Material
The design variant of the Leica Q2 is enveloped in a ‘body armor’ made of Kevlar – a synthetic material known for its exceptional resilience. Over time, exposure to natural UV rays will change the fabric’s color, until it matches the dark green, highly scratch-resistant finish of the camera body.
95% More Resolution
The 47.3 MP full-frame sensor of the Leica Q2 is the highest resolution sensor in its class. The Q2 extends beyond the conventional use-cases of a 28 mm focal length with its built-in crop functions for equivalent focal lengths of 35 mm, 50 mm, and the newly available 75 mm – bringing with it greater possibilities in the world of portraiture and close-up shooting. When cropped to a 35 mm equivalent frame, this sensor maintains a 30 MP image, which is higher than the original Leica Q's maximum of 24 MP at 28 mm. When shooting cropped DNG files the full sensor image is still recorded, allowing the user to undo or change the crop during postprocessing. The Q2 is the ideal companion for all types of street, architectural, landscape, travel, documentary, reportage, and even portrait photography, thanks to its newfound resolution and flexibility, as well as its high ISO performance and fast aperture.
Weather Sealing and Improved Life
The IP52-certified weather sealing of the Q2 protects the camera from dust, rain, and water spray, allowing users to photograph in a variety of scenarios. The BPSCL4 battery from the Leica SL extends battery life by 30% over the original Leica Q, and the Q2's built-in rubber gasket further seals the device. This level of weather-sealing is usually reserved for pro-level cameras.
OLED High-Resolution EVF
A new high-resolution OLED viewfinder with a lag-free high refresh rate and faster auto-switching between the rear display and the EVF is provided. The viewfinder's excellent resolution of 3.68 megapixels gives the sharpest image of the user's composition, allowing them to frame subjects perfectly and accurately. OLED panels, which are commonly seen in high-end smartphones and televisions, are superior to LCDs because they adjust the brightness of each pixel independently, resulting in more color depth and quality.
Speed and 4K Video
The Leica Q2's autofocus technology locks on to the subject in milliseconds, making it one of the fastest cameras in its class. Even at the highest resolution, improvements to its processor from the Maestro II family have enabled a high continuous burst shooting rate with an impressive 10 frames per second from the mechanical shutter. The Q2 now supports 4K UHD and Cine4K video recording, with frame rates ranging from 4K to 1080p. The integrated Wi-Fi module, when used in conjunction with the Leica FOTOS App, allows you to swiftly and effortlessly share photos and videos on social media, and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) allows you to establish a permanent connection between the camera and your smartphone. Now users can even remotely wake the camera and connect when in range.
Design and Handling
With a Made in Germany seal of quality, the Leica Q2 design continues the Leica tradition of reducing to the essentials. The distinctive thumb rest and the sophisticated diamond pattern of its leather trim ensure optimum grip and highlight the symbiosis of function and form. A redesigned handling concept with improved design language cues like the single-stage On/Off switch, simpler three-button interface on the rear of the camera, and programmable button within the thumbwheel dial is also available. A push-button diopter compensation dial on the back of the Q2 is a highlight of the design, as it locks and prevents inadvertent modifications to the desired setting. Every improvement, big or small, pushes Leica's design-forward without losing sight of the core philosophy of the camera.
