Sony Portable Hi-Res DAC/Headphone Amplifier

The Sony PHA-2 portable headphone amplifier allows you to enjoy a high-resolution audio experience through your headphones. It can decode PCM audio sources at 192kHz/24-bit and DSD audio sources at 2.8 MHz / 5.6 MHz formats.

Flexible Connectivity

The PHA-2 is compatible with a wide array of digital devices. It has 3 USB inputs: standard A for iPod/iPhone/iPad devices, mini-B for hi-res Walkman and micro-B for PC or Mac. The PHA-2 also offers an analog input for connecting to most MP3 players, smartphones and other audio devices as well as a line out for external amp or active speakers.

Jitter-Free Audio

The amplifier features an asynchronous USB 2.0 clock that supports highly accurate DA conversions. The precision clock signal generator reduces timing inaccuracies when converting digital signals into analog waveforms. This maintains sound stage integrity and audio response, resulting in superior audio performance with minimal noise and distortion.

High-Quality Amplification Circuits

The PCM1795 DAC samples PCM audio at 192 kHz/24 bit and DSD audio at 2.8/5.6 MHz. The LME49860 operational amp delivers outstanding signal and performance with ultra-low distortion, low noise and high slew rate. The high bandwidth TPA6120 headphone amp minimizes noise, delivering than 120 dB of dynamic range to ensure music is heard with every detail.

Durable Construction and Materials

The compact aluminum enclosure protects the delicate circuitry inside from outside interference and impacts while alloy bumpers protect the volume knob and headphone connectors from external impact. Recessed control switches reduce the chance of accidental access during playback.

Flexible Headphone Support

A two-position, side-mounted gain switch allows you to optimize the PHA-2’s output level to match varying headphone impedances from 8 to 600 Ohm. Select between Low or High settings to maximize your listening experience.

Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery

The internal rechargeable battery provides approximately 6.5 hours of hi-res playback when connected digitally via USB input or up to 17 hours of playback when connected using the analog, 1/8-inch stereo input.
