Rode’s VideoMicro is a compact microphone that mounts to the top of a camera and vastly improves the audio quality of videos. The VideoMicro uses a cardioid condenser microphone capsule to filter out peripheral noise and focus on audio directly in front of the camera. The VideoMicro is slightly less sensitive than other Rode mics so recording indoors yields a more natural sound with fewer echoes. The body of this mic is made from aluminum which gives it a high level of RF rejection. This means that you’ll get less audio interference when recording near electronics that emit radio signals. The VideoMicro comes with a Rycote Lyre shock mount that’s made of solid thermoplastic which minimizes unwanted vibrations and noise. This kit also includes a wind shield designed to eliminate environmental noises due to wind.

Directional Recording

The VideoMicro incorporates a cardioid condenser microphone that ignores sounds coming from the rear and sides of the mic and focuses specifically on sounds coming from the front. This makes the VideoMicro ideal for recording audio in noisy environments like parks or other public spaces where there’s likely to be a lot of background noise coming from every direction. This microphone is also great for recording indoors since it will ignore the echoing effect that happens when voices bounce off hard floors and walls.

Rycote Lyre Shock Mount

The VideoMicro comes with a camera shoe mount that features a Rycote Lyre shock mount with a suspension structure composed of durable thermoplastic. This thermoplastic is significantly more effective at minimizing unwanted vibrations and cable-borne noise than elastic suspensions and will never sag, snap, wear out or require re-threading to maintain its effectiveness. Also included is the WS9 synthetic furry wind shield with a foam inner cell. This windshield is designed for use while recording outdoors to eliminate wind-related noise and other environmental sounds that can interfere with recording.
