Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens

Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Digital Camera with RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens SKU: 4147C013

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two R5s make the best combination for wildlife photos I bought a second R5 body so that my photo process remained the same across picking up a second camera with a different lens set up. It is important to have the muscle memory so that I can make the most of the camera's capabilities without having to stop and think.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best camera ive ever owned Ive owned almost every Canon DSLR since the 20D. I didn't think the 5DmkIV could be topped, but this camera blows it out of the water. Great looking files directly out of the camera. If you take your time and expose correctly, very little post required. The in camera ibis is a game changer, especially paired with a great stabilized lens. Cant wait to see what the R5 II will bring to the table.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best camera for wildlife I have had my r5 for over a year and it is a fantastic camera for wildlife. I couple it with my EF lenses and have had nothing but great success.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Canon R 5 is perfect for astrophotography/wildlife/landscape photo I've had my R 5 for almost 2 years and I love it! I shoot mainly astrophotography/wildlife/landscape., and The R5 is awesome in all categories of photography. Performs extremely well in low light and cropping an image from far distances. The videos I take wirh the R5 are fantastic. It's not too heavy and is easy to use. Perfect for out in the field. I love my R5. It's my forever camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing R5 I’ve owned Canon SLR’s forever and decided to try the R5 mirrorless camera. The image resolution is by far the best I’ve seen. If you’re familiar with Canon Camera’s, you’ll find the R5 intuitive and easy to use. This was a really good choice for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid R Series Camera Excellent camera and really nice upgrade to 6D. In body stabilization particularly for unstabilized lenses, upgrade to autofocus and additional resolution are all welcome and significant differences. View finder is bright and clear and additional information displayed, a level, manual focus guide and other data make it a pleasure to use. If one can pick one up on sale it’s a good value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great photos but freezes often even after firmware update The image quality is incredible from this camera, and the AF system is really impressive. The menu is intuitive. But there's no point in having crisp hi res photos and perfect focus if the camera is constantly freezing up during *the* important moments. This camera freezes up every 5 minutes or so once you've been shooting for over an hour. It's so weird because the viewfinder and the rear screen both work when the camera freezes, you can still see your subject moving in them, but the shutter button, playback, menu, shortcuts are all frozen and don't work. In some cases I can get it going again by turning it off and on, but sometimes I have to actually remove the battery and reinsert to get it working again. This happens more frequently when the battery is starting to get low, but also happens after about 30 minutes of shooting when it still says the battery has several bars. I did the most recent firmware update on it and it worked without freezing up for 1 session, but the next session it started freezing up again. I've never considered switching to another brand from Canon, been shooting with Canon since 2006. But I'll switch to Nikon if this isn't resolved. I need a reliable camera because some of my sessions are once in a lifetime moments that can't be recreated. I switch back to my old 5D Mark III for those more important moments, because the client would rather have grainy photos of their big moment than a crisp clear photo of something that happened 10 seconds after their big moment. Canon, I have read so many reviews that have this same problem and it's all over the online forums. Please stand behind your product and fix this issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My R5 My R5 worked well with my adapted EF L-lenses I had when I first got my camera, the IBIS also worked well with my Sigma 50mm Art lens. These days all my lenses are RF but kept the Sigma Art lens. I gotta say that the L-series RF lenses are awesome but if you can afford it then get the RF 100-500 lens, it's like that lens was made to use on the R5! I bought mine for it's IBIS and the 45mp sensor that lets me crop all I want!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb auto focus I’ve owned my R5 and it’s been great so far. The best assets of this camera is the superb focusing system. I do a reasonable amount of bird photography and the system does a great job of focusing on the eye. The camera has good grain control at high iso. I use the camera with EF glass ( 70-200 2.8 iii, 24-70 2.8 II, etc.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great camera until it freezes up...which is often If you use the camera for more than I'd say 20-30 minutes, camera starts freezing up every 5-10 minutes and turning the camera off and on doesn't always fix it. You'll be shooting and suddenly it won't focus. The screen is still working so it looks like everything is fine but nothing actually responds, you can't press any buttons or focus or go to playback mode or anything. Luckily I've only used it for portraits and receptions so I'm able to mess with it and get it working (usually have to take battery out), but had this happened during a wedding ceremony I would have been in big trouble. My income relies on these cameras actually working reliably. Very disappointed in Canon. Still using my 5d III for weddings until I can get a reliable replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sports photography Absolutely love this camera, used it for pictures of the games when it was around 90 degrees and even filming and taking photos it didn’t over heat. Battery life is also fairly strong if you turn off the camera in between use. Absolutely love this camera

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great camera, but aging AF and no midrange 200-600 options I bought an R5 in May 2023. This is a great camera overall, and that has been documented well elsewhere. I want to focus on two ways that Canon could make this camera and system a lot better. First, since Canon is still selling the R5 as a flagship camera in 2023, I think they need to give it the R6 II autofocus features via a firmware update. It's frustrating to pay the R5 price premium over the R6 II but then not get the same autofocus features that have been available since Nov 2022. On top of that, the R5's electronic shutter performance is basically obsolete now, so its edge over other products needs to come from features like AF. Yes, there might be an R5 successor some day, but that's no consolation for those who already spent a lot of money on an R5. If this is a 2023 camera for Canon, it should have 2023 features. Second, this is a great wildlife camera, yet there is no way to get a midrange RF 200-600 zoom at a reasonable price. You can put a 1.4x extender on the RF 100-500 L, but then you have an F10 lens at 700mm--quite slow. You can also put a 2x extender on the RF 100-300 2.8 L, but that is an extremely expensive lens which most people can't afford. The F11 600 and 800 primes are available, but the tiny aperture and STM drive are limiting. It is standard for camera makers to offer a moderately priced 200-600 with an aperture of around 6.3 on the long end. I am just baffled at Canon's refusal to do this. Bottom line, this is a five star camera, but I have to take away one star for the outdated AF and another star for Canon lacking an obligatory midrange 200-600 lens. It is maddening to see Canon missing the mark on things that can be fixed so easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade to mirrorless for professional sports work Coming from a 1DX mk ii, I mulled over getting the R5 or the R3. I decided on the R5 because of the higher megapixels, which will allow me to crop in on my sports photos. I capture horse racing mostly, or other things in quick action. I am impressed with 99.8% of this camera's abilities, and its price point. The megapixel bump, compared to the low 1DX mkii is amazing. The weight difference is great too, even with the 100-400mm EF ii, I'd much rather carry the R5 with this lens. The 1DX mkii is a back-breaker with anything over a 24-70 on it, especially for shooting 12 hours straight. Eventually, I'll get RF lenses, but while I have a 1DX as well, I'll keep using EF. I don't find that the noise is hateful (when compared to the 1DX mkii), and let's be honest, if you use programs that reduce noise and can still keep the quality of the picture, it's just one extra step. Especially now that Adobe Photoshop has Denoise in-program. I certainly recommend having extra batteries on you at all times because the R5 sucks energy like a 5-year-old with a capri-sun at the playground. I have not gotten the battery grip, mostly because I don't shoot vertically often enough and I carry a bag at the track to keep various sundries in anyway so I just carry a battery and extra CFexpress B memory card with me at all times. I have only had this camera since May, but I am pretty happy with it and its image quality is far better than the DSLR Canons for what I do, speed-wise. I hope that one day, the "horse" focus feature from the R6 ii makes it to this camera. There are times when it likes the background at the track more, and since I am new to it and horses move at about 35MPH, I sometimes get a few off-focus or focus on the wrong horse. It happens and I chalk most of it to beginners user error. I don't shoot video so I cannot speak for that. I've only tried the 1.6x crop once and it was neat with a 70-200 2.8 iii on it. I have only taken a few "accidental" photos while on electronic shutter and the camera by my side. With the equipped Canon strap, it sits well enough on my 5'7" frame that I don't have 50+ pics of the ground between points A and B. I know another brand's higher-end camera can have this accidental firing issue. I'm traditional with using the eye viewer, but I have started using the live-shot screen more to capture photos. I don't like the live "level" screen for capturing a race however because it throws me off IN the race, unless shooting head-on. It's nice for close-ups or scenery though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera I've owned the R5 since it was introduced, fantastic Image quality and Autofocus. There was a little bit of a learning curve but no more than with other camera brands I have used. It has done everything I expect, and allowed me to get shots I would have missed in the past.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not my favorite Canon OK camera. It's been slowing down on my lately and I don't feel like I've really put it to task. I'm probably going to try and trade this in, but upset because the image quality has been great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good pics when it works I've had the R5 for over a year now and am glad I read the reviews about it frequently freezing up before buying it. If left on for several minutes it may freeze up requiring it to be turned off for several seconds before it resumes normal functioning again. If you leave it on for more than several minutes with shooting it can shut down for half a day, however. I've had to adapt by frequently turning it off then on again when I'm shooting so that I don't miss (more) shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! After trying to let go of my 5DIV, i wasn't ready for a change and hesitant to use the R5. Even purchased two RF lens. 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8. Nobody likes change, right? Forced myself to pick up the R5 and GO! Month later, I bought another R5. 5DIV is still my second camera and will not get rid of it. But the R5s are Superb and does everything I need it to do and MORE!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great camera but fragile shutter system. the R5 is all i wanted. a better autofocus than my 5dm4, rotating screen, IBS, etc. and i was very happy with it until an error code No 20 appears on the screen. I send it to Canon and the shutter system had to be changed. The camera had 40.000 shouts.... less than 10% of the 500.000 promised. i have to say than until the guaranty was expired, Canon paid the repair. But now i am not so confident with the Camera. I hope than it was something exceptional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won't regret this purchase Pound for Pound the best camera on the market. The specs speak for themselves. Ergonomics are the best, without question. Its lightweight, great grip, feels good in the hands whether you have small hands or big beefy hands, like mine. EVF, rear, and top screens are perfectly luminated in all lighting types. Full button and dial customizations are handy, but even straight out of the box, controls are easy and fast when working in manual mode and setting for the correct exposure and focus points.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera with one major issue (freezing) The Canon EOS R5 is an outstanding camera. Firmware 1.6 fixed issues with video recording that made users very happy. Photo quality is very very good. I would like to congradulate Canon for their firmwares that improve the stability and bring exciting new features. This body is not perfect but I believe that you get your hard saved money a very good camera for the price BUT their is still 1 major flaw left (beside the 29:59 video limit). From time to time, the camera freezes. Using the 1.52 firmware I got absolutely no freezing but as soon as I updated with version 1.6 the camera started to freeze. So please Canon, can you solve the freezing issues with the camera ? I missed opportunities with this issue. When you're in wildlife and the camera locks up you can't get the shots you were there for. With all your experience and knowledge I am confident that you can correct this problem definitively. You bring firmwares on a regular schedule. This remind me how much you care for users and each firmware tells me that I have zero reason to switch brand. I have been a faithful customer for many years and I plan to continue. Please continue to improve our experience and satisfaction with the R5 with upcoming firmwares. I am a very satisfied customer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great until the Overheating Starts I loved this camera for the first month or so, mostly shooting stills. When I started shooting slow motion video I quickly started to hate it. It overheats after about 15 minutes of shooting 4K 120 fps. It's extremely frustrating, and has already cost me many amazing shots. In my opinion Canon should have never released the camera with such an obvious issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from LOTS OF NOISE I have had several problems with my R5 when newer which have been resolved with sending in for repair and firmware. Freezing, autofocus, etc. my only problem now is grain/noise at ISO as low as 400. Sent in for repair 2 times for this and told nothing wrong. I do not recommend the R5 and I’m switching brands. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera. Wish there will be a firmware upgrade to make it 30fps. The improvement in focusing is noticeable and great. I have barely missed any focus. 45MP is great in case cropping is needed. I am super impressed by the 20fps shooting and it's day and night difference comparing to 5DIV. Not seeing it will happen in reality but I wish it could be upgraded to 30fps to make the camera even more enjoyable. The camera froze a couple of times during high speed continuous shooting. I had to power cycle the camera. It seems to be a common problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Long-term review: frequent crashes, subpar build quality I loved the camera at first. After over a year, I'm still mostly happy with it. In terms of features and image quality, it's a winner. The autofocus is amazing. However, it crashes too often for a pro camera. This seems to fluctuate with firmware updates. Lately it's been OK, but it went through a nearly unusable phase in the last version of the firmware and I missed many shots because of camera crashes. It's also not well weather sealed and if I'm out in light rain, I quickly get condensation behind the viewfinder. Honestly, I just don't trust it out in the weather and that prevents me from getting the job done. Similarly, the build quality in general is no where near the standard of Canon's older pro cameras. I suppose, to be fair, they say that the R1 will be the flagship, but still, the R5 was the top of the line and the choice for many pros when it came out and still with the R1 not out yet, many pros will choose the R5 over the R3. Unfortunately, for me, Canon just doesn't have the right offerings anymore. I'll likely be moving over to another brand. It's such a shame because Canon still has great technology, features, optics. But build quality, repairs, customer service, have all gone down hill and those things are critical for professionals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera Came well packaged, no damaged pieces and nothing missing. The camera itself works great, no malfunctions to speak of. Of course if you want to use a camera like this, do your research so you know how to use it to the fullest capability. All in all, glad I got it before it spiked in price any further.
