Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G Lens
Nikon's AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G is an advanced prime lens with a bright f/1.4 to f/16 aperture and a rounded 9-blade diaphragm for producing pleasing out-of-focus elements, or bokeh. You will enjoy images with incredible depth and clarity and high low light performance, thanks to the two aspherical elements, Nano Crystal Coating, and Nikon's Super Integrated Coating. The Silent Wave Motor allows for quick, near-silent autofocusing and Manual/Auto mode for fast switching between auto and manual focus. Additionally, this lens has a 1.9-feet minimum focusing distance and a 72mm filter thread.
Outstanding Low-Light Photos and Videos
When shooting photos or video in low light—especially at night—you often want your lens aperture wide open. With many lenses, though, shooting at maximum aperture can cause a slight distortion at the edge of your frame—points of light render as diamond-shaped flares. The AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G is specially designed to combat this distortion while providing even brightness across the frame. Capture sharp, evenly lit photos and videos, edge to edge.
Natural Depth of Field, Beautiful Bokeh
The AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G adds a dramatic sense of depth to your compositions—both at short distances as well as long-distance landscapes. When shooting stills of a close subject, the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G can achieve beautiful bokeh with soft, natural edges that diminishes smoothly away from your focal point. When recording HD video, use these outstanding bokeh characteristics for interesting smooth focusing transitions and drawing attention to your subject.
Flattering, Versatile Perspective
Paying homage to the acclaimed Noct Nikkor 58mm f/1.2, the 58mm focal length falls in the sweet spot between a standard lens (50mm) and a medium telephoto lens (85mm). On an FX-format D-SLR, it offers a natural perspective with just enough telephoto characteristic to exaggerate depth of field. On a DX-format D-SLR, its 87mm equivalent perspective is ideal for portraits and other medium telephoto uses.
Silent Wave Motor (SWM)
Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology provides rapid auto-focusing while remaining exceedingly quiet and accurate. "Traveling Waves" are transformed into a rotational energy that focuses the optics.
Aspherical Design
Nikon's aspherical lens design creates a more complex surface profile. This helps to greatly reduce spherical and other optical aberrations. The design further ensures consistent imaging performance throughout the entire focal range, while delivering incredible sharpness up to the periphery of the image.
Nano Crystal Coating
Nano Crystal Coat eliminates internal lens element reflections, particularly flaring common in ultra-wideangle lenses. Designed with multiple layers of Nikon's low refractive index coating, Nikon represents an industry leader in lens technology by employing this innovative lens coating technology for use in consumer optics.
M/A Mode AF-S
NIKKOR lenses include Nikon's proprietary M/A mode. This feature allows you to effortlessly switch from autofocus to manual operation with virtually no time lag. Regardless of the AF mode, you can simply and conveniently switch to manual focus even during AF servo operation.
Super Integrated Coating
The Nikon anti-reflective coating is an optical design feature which ensures superior clarity and image brilliance, even in poor or unfavorable lighting conditions. Nikon applies the anti-reflective coating through a special process, layering the lens surface in order to substantially reduce unwanted flare or ghosting. This process helps to ensure incredibly rich image contrast and true color fidelity.
