Unreliable, shoddy, and not as advertised.
I’ve had two of these and both have suffered corruption problems from unexpected forced ejections from my computer, even when it has not been disconnected. As a wedding photographer this is unacceptable and is far too big of a risk for the price. These hard drives are pure garbage and I will probably never buy a Sandisk product again.

5/24/24 I woke up and it was wiped
I've had 2 of them for quite a while, but on 5/24 my main one was wiped out, no clue on how it happened, it was fine the night before when i tuned off my system. At this time it requires me to format so i can access it. Im running a recovery program since it contains files that i need. Im very happy with it, till 5/24.

Complete and Utter FAILURE
Sandisk / Western Digital “WAS” a name I trusted for years until recently. See recently I connected my SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD 1TB just like any other time and that was to store files on it as it is a “Portable External SSD” made to SAVE FILES SAFELY, or so I thought…I thought wrong this day.
I connect my drive to my 17" Dell 2 in 1 laptop like many times before, saving irreplaceable files (because you know that’s what external drives are for) as I am transferring my files I get a call so I answer it and walk away while my files are still transferring. To come back 5 minutes later to a familiar hot plastic smell and slight chemically smelling smoke so, i’m checking here and checking there…nothing…until I sit down at my desk and notice my files are done transferring, so I go to disconnect my Sandisk extreme 1TB SSD only for my hand and fingers to be greeted with extremely hot melted plastic ( the outer case of the SSD). Mind you I am using the cord meant for it and have always kept it in the case that it’s meant to be stored in. Never been dropped or gotten wet etc… etc… etc… but for some reason this day it decided it wanted to OVERHEAT itself so bad that it melted the plastic around the USB-C port all while COMPLETELY DESTROYING SAID USB-C PORT, charred like Ghostrider had it stored in his thinking cap. Heres the best part WD/SANDISK…I want to personally thank you for the trust I had in your product only to make it to where I CANNOT RETRIEVE my around 930GB of data I have on that SSD …OH OH AND…About 46GB of that 930 were IMAGES/PICTURES/MEMORIES OF MY DECEASED FATHER THAT I CAN NEVER EVER EVER GET BACK OR GET REPLACED SO THANK YOU SANDISK FOR THAT. Silly me thinking my files were safe inside your product, I know I know my bad right?! Life stole my Dad early in his life and you came through with the encore of your failed product to take undeniably non replaceable visual memories from me also. WD/SanDisk any of you sat next to your father and had to shut off the life support machine and SIT WITH YOUR HERO AS HE TAKES HIS VERY LAST BREATHES WITH NOBODY IN THAT ROOM WITH TO HELP YOU THROUGH IT…HAVE YOU??? THANK YOU WD/SANDISK I WILL NEVER USE ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN. BUYERS BEWARE PLEASE!!

Faulty with USB-C computers
It is kind of sad when you buy a next generation SSD for a late 2015 IMac. While editing in Lightroom suddenly it was disconnected and from then on it disconnects every 30 minutes from the computer. I don't know what happened, but it was very annoying and it was difficult to recuperate the Lightroom catalog. Maybe it's the fault of the USB-A to USB-C adapter. On the other side it works well with the MBP with original USB-C connectors.

Great Product! Highly Recommend!
This has been a great product for me. I have been able to to quickly consolidate all my old videos, photos, and files into one drive. It's incredibly fast, very happy about that! This is my second purchase of this drive. I got one for my Wife first and now have gotten one for myself. Highly recommend!

Trouble using with new iMAC 24" desktop
I was unable to use my photo library that I loaded on the SanDisk 4 Tb Extreme SSD as the "system library" on my new iMac 24" desktop. I have always stored my video and photos and worked with them from an external drive. But now after much discussion and help from Apple Support I was not able to download any new files to the portable SSD. I finally had to move everything to the computer's storage as my "system Library". Perhaps I got the wrong tech. for help. It seems crazy that this is the reality of the situation. If someone from SanDisk could reach out, please do.

Worked great for 5 months. Than suddenly one morning my computers no longer recolonized it. When my Mac suggested I initialize this 1TB device it says the drive has a capacity of 67.1 MB.

Not So Fast!
Please explain under what conditions you get 2000MB/s. Just do that in your advertising to be transparent. I have hooked several of these up to the latest Macs using Thunderbolt 4 cables and they don't even get to 1000MB/s using AJA System Test to check speeds.

Started out great, but now they’re too s-l-o -w.
I wanted to love these drives. I purchased two 2 TB versions in November of 2023.. They’re lightweight, and oh so portable!
Unfortunately, after using them for a few months, transferring data between my iPad, iPhone and Windows 11 PC, the PC, the phone and the iPad now have trouble loading the data. It sits and takes forever to load data from these drives, no matter which device I’m trying to read them with. I reformat them and occasionally that will help for a brief time. Very disappointed.

DO NOT use for VIDEO
In recent months, I've employed the SanDisk 4TB for storing video files, but unfortunately, I've run into an issue with file corruption. As I played the videos, I observed banding and digital glitches in some of them. Curiously, the original sources didn't display this problem. Adding to the complication, when I extracted files from a zip archive on the same drive, they also experienced corruption. To address this, I had to redownload the files from my cloud backup to another drive, overwriting the affected files. Regrettably, this solution didn't consistently resolve the problem. Seeking assistance, I reached out to tech support, only to be informed that it was a Windows-related issue, and they were unable to provide help. It's worth noting that this isn't a Windows problem, as other drives on the same computer are not exhibiting the same issue.

Go somewhere else.
the drive is WAY too unstable and corrupted without notice. The warranty doesn't cover data recovery so I really wasted my money. Don't waste yours.

Poor product
Not durable as claimed. Not working after 1 year and 6 months. Sandisk was used solely for backup and was retained in one location next to my computer Not exposed to element nor misuse of any source.

Becomes corrupt after about a year and fails
These drives have lasted me about a year. I bought one and it became corrupt after about a year so I replaced it and now the new one is not working properly.
My current 1 gig ssd external no long is able to transfer files quickly. It takes about 1 hour to transfer 1 gig.
I am done with Western Digital drives.

Rugged, light, and dependable
I have had this drive for a while but didn't have a computer that could take advantage of the 2000MB speed until today. Bought a new Dell XPS 15 with the Thunderbolt 4 ports and I still only get 1000MBps. Other than the false speed claim it is a great drive. I have to give it 1 star because of the dishonesty, but if it wasn't for that it would be 5 stars easy. My model is SDSSDE81-T00, and I used the factory cable it came with to test it with ATTO.

So much space!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This portable SSD has so much space! I was able to use it for my videos and pictures! As a content creator in influencer, I record lots of longform videos, and it usually takes up a lot of space on my computer, but having this was amazing because I was able to store a lot of those files on it And still had so much space left over. It was super quick and easy to transfer files back-and-forth and it really helped. Save a lot of space on my computer!

Won’t go back!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I simply cannot believe the punch this tiny portable SSD is packing. It’s so thin and sleek whilst still feeling sturdy and well-built, technology sure has come a long way since thumb drives! I’m impressed with the writing speed as well, and have encountered no problem whatsoever during my use of this portable drive.

Disappointed, my bad.
The device is as advertised, but pay attention. I did NOT notice this major detail in the description. I sadly assumed the USB-C connector meant dual compatibility.
It is NOT Thunderbolt speed capable! So NO high speed transfer for me.
ONLY USB 3.2 standard, so unlike other SSD external drives like the 4Tb Sabrent XTRM Q I have, which has BOTH Thunderbold AND USB 3.2 compatibilty, you MUST have the new USB 3.2 and above capability, otherwise JUST 450 Mbps USB 3.1 SLOW transfer rates.
Too bad they failed to provide BOTH standards as MANY other manufacturers who go to the length to use the USB-C connector.
The size is SMALLER than expected. Rugged and easy to use otherwise.

So small
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can't believe how compact this is for a 1tb drive! I know I'm probably dating myself but I remember when these things were easily the size of a VHS tape. Perfect for backing up all my pics (I promise I don't still use a film camera). I love that it's ssd too. So much more stable and quiet than the old type.

Holy Grail of BackUp
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can easily fill my phone’s space within a week. I consistently record content all day, every day. Deleting content is the absolute worst, but is necessary to create space - unless you have a backup device. This device is a lifesaver! It is so small for the amount of space it offers, I can upload years of content/data without a dent in allowable space in the device. It is just a smidge larger than a credit card ( see photo with my hand for comparison) so it can be thrown in the smallest of handbag’s . This ensures that you are never in a spot where you need to delete data to create new content. Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
