Sony Alpha FE 12-24mm f/4 G Ultra Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
The new Sony Alpha FE Zoom Lens opens up a world of new creative options with its exceptional G-Master performance and ultra-wide 12-24mm range! This lens captures images with high definition from one side of the frame to the other at any aperture setting. It’s quiet, fast autofocus make it ideal for movies and stills. This lens is an excellent choice for shooting landscapes and architecture since its compact, lightweight design makes active shooting easy.
Ultra Wide-Angle Zoom
This Sony Alpha lens offers photographers ultra-wide-angle zoom range that runs from 12mm to 24mm. This is the widest perspective in the company’s full-frame E-mount line-up. Optical aberrations are a common problem with extremely wide-angle lenses, but the optical design of this E-mount lens greatly reduces, or even eliminates, these optical distortions to achieve excellent resolution across the entire image area.
Constant f/4 Maximum Aperture
Constant f/4 max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field regardless of the focal range to which you zoom. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the areas out of the focal plane appear blurred.
Super ED Glass
One Super ED glass element and three ED glass elements are strategically deployed to minimize chromatic aberration. Effective reduction of chromatic aberration contributes to improved sharpness and clarity throughout the image area.
Aspherical Lens Elements
The lens’s optical design incorporates four aspherical elements to suppress aberrations that can reduce image quality. These aberrations occur when light is refracted at different point on conventional spherical lenses. Specially shaped aspherical elements correct this issue to maintain image sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and ultra-wide angles.
Nano Anti-Reflective Coating
Sony’s original Nano Anti-Reflective Coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting by suppressing internal reflections and maintaining clarity, even in difficult outdoor lighting conditions, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.
Direct Drive Supersonic Wave Motor
High-resolution cameras demand absolute focus precision. A floating mechanism driven by a DDSSM actuator maintains outstanding resolution from infinity to close focus for both stills and movies. DDSSM has the capability to position the large, heavy optical assemblies required by large-aperture lenses with pinpoint precision, offering accurate, fast and quiet autofocus. Manual focus response is natural and intuitive with the DDSSM system.
Fast, Quiet AF
While autofocus speed and precision are essential to quickly capture and reliably track the subject, quiet operation is a must for movie recording. This lens features an advanced inner-focus mechanism driven by Sony's DDSSM system.
7-Blade Circular Aperture
When changing your aperture to defocus the background, light sources appear blurred. This bokeh effect of the blurred background is enhanced with the 7-blade circular aperture used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. Alpha lenses overcome this problem through a design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by two stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
