Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens

The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens represents another step forward in photographic technology. This G Master 35mm, full frame, standard zoom lens is a great choice for professional photographers who require the best optical performance possible. In order to further improve image quality, the lens features Sony’s Nano anti-reflective coating that reduces the amount of light that’s reflected by the lens and helps reduce lens flare and image ghosting. This lens also has a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture that allows you to more easily maintain exposure settings while changing the zoom range.

Constant f/2.8 Maximum Aperture

Shooting in low-light situations is always challenging, but the lens’ constant f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures that you’ll get great looking pictures in any light and at any zoom range. You won’t have to worry about readjusting exposure settings, either, as this lens maintains its settings as you zoom in and out. Since you won’t have to readjust exposure settings, you also won’t have to deal with slower shutter speeds in low light either.

Extra Low Dispersion (ED) and Super ED Glass Elements

The two separate ED and Super ED glass elements that are built into the optical path work in conjunction with the XA lens element to further reduce chromatic aberrations. These elements reduce lateral and axial chromatic aberration without reducing resolution so your pictures will have a stunning level of texture and detail without sacrificing vibrant, lifelike colors.

Extreme Aspherical (XA) Lens Element

Newly developed XA technology helps insure that your photos will maintain beautiful corner-to-corner resolution regardless of how much you move through the zoom range. It also helps eliminate chromatic aberration so your photos always have the most vibrant colors possible. Another advantage of XA technology is the smooth, soft bokeh it provides. The harsh rings that can appear in out-of-focus light sources are eliminated by the Sony FE 24-70mm, providing you with even more artistic possibilities regardless of if you’re shooting stills or video footage.

Nano Anti-Reflective Coating

Sony’s original Nano anti-reflective coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano anti-reflective coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.

50 Line Pairs/mm Resolving Power

It is not easy to achieve spatial frequency of 50 lines pairs per millimeter at a lens's widest aperture, but that is Sony's baseline for G Master design. Unprecedented resolution and other demanding design parameters yield outstanding reproduction of the most detailed subjects and scenes with superior contrast throughout every frame.

Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM)

High-resolution camera bodies demand absolute focus precision. The Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor (SSM) focus system is more than up to the task for both stills and movies. DDSSM has the capability to position the large, heavy optical assemblies required by large-aperture lenses with pinpoint precision, offering advantages for manual focus as well as autofocus. Manual focus response is also natural and intuitive.

9-Blade Aperture

The remarkable beauty of this lens’s bokeh is further enhanced by a 9-blade circular aperture design that contributes not only to smoothness, but to natural highlights as well.

Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens

Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens SKU: SEL2470GM

Rated 1 out of 5 by from terribly let down I was so excited to get this lens but it intermittently tells me the lens is not attached correctly and won't focus. Everything is clean and new I don't understand. It works fine for hours, then out of the blue it wont focus and gets super dark. It's getting worse and now im afraid to even take it on a shoot. Super bummed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GMaster Quality I have owned the lens for about 1-1/2 months. I have used it for a high-density Christmas in July Party. (5) Paid and (2) Volunteer Events. Because the Sony A7IV has more than enough latitude, the 2.8 f-Stop was not of concern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this lens This is a very nice lens. I’ve only played with it a little bit, but I’m very pleased with the photos. The color looks great and pics are sharp and clear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I expected! The 24-70 GMaster 2.8 lens is bulky but I can live with that. What I can't live with is how grainy and not sharp all of my shots are coming out! I have the 24-70 G Zeiss and love it. Maybe there's something wrong with it. Software was up to date. Needs steady shot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, Useful Lens The Sony FE 24-70 mm f2.8 GM lens is sharp as a tack and distortion-free. The focal length range makes it very useful in everyday situations. A great lens!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from xlnt low light abilities if stationary Nice full daytime clips without crazy distortions. The bokeh is awesome throughout the zoom range. Night shots were made in heaven when manually focused in a stationary setting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great versatile lens I bought the lens a year ago and am very satisfied. Its my to go lens at any event

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Easy to have connections problem I brought it for little over a year. Only use few times. And it had problem with connecting to Camaro. Because it was over the warranty time. Cost me over 700 to repair it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Sharp. Great contrast I could not be happier with the images from this lens. Sony, it's a real winner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The "one lens" to rule them all. I bought this lens over a year ago and it barely ever comes off my A7riii - I've done product shots, portraits, video, landscape, time-lapses, long exposures - you name it I've done it all with this lens. Photography is expensive and I get that the price tag is nothing to scoff at but if you're truly looking for that "do it all" lens this really can't be matched. The only minior complaint that I have with this lens is that is basically ruins the form factor of a mirrorless camera. It's very big and heavy and does not play nicely with most gimbal set ups

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed I’ve had this lens’s for less than a year (approximately 8 months) and was extremely excited when I got this lens. Initially, it was working just fine with out of focus images here and there, I attributed it to user error. However after 8 months of this being my primary lens I am still experiencing blurring images when attempting to capture both moving and still subjects. Not sure if I bought a dud when I purchased this lens or if the motor in the lens is malfunction and shifts my focus when I press the shutter release. This occurs on continuous AF and single shot AF on my A7rIII.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly Sharp I bought this lens before having a full frame camera, but thinking that I would replace my APS-C one as soon a as I could. Finally, I bought a 7RM4, and tried the lease in both cameras. I was surprised by the resolution extent given in my AOS-c, and completely astonished, when I used it on my 7RM4. The only cons I find is its weight and size. Anyway, they are justified once you see the results

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tack sharp! I just purchased the Sony alpha 7 R iii and the G series 24-70 zoom and this camera and lens combination has made a believer out of me for full-frame mirrorless platform. Hoping to switch completely to G-series lenses and the Sony platform.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic quality, very sharp I replaced an older lens. The Sony is much better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rubber Band used for Zoom feature Rubber band for Zoom feature is now loose. Not acceptable for a supposedly top Quality lens
Date published: 2019-09-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sharp, very heavy I've been getting pixel sharp and clean photos with this lens even in difficult lighting. Autofocus is fast and quiet. I don't have any battery drain issues with stabilization. The front glass cleans with little effort and so far I haven't seen any dust inside. The significant downside is that this is a HEAVY lens. It's about at the limit of what you can carry in one hand and it needs two hands for shooting. There's a customizable "focus hold" button between the turning rings that can't be relied on. You can hold it down accidentally in portrait mode but then can't reach it in landscape mode. It's probably best to set the camera to automatically switch to MF when the focus ring is turned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth, sharp, sexy. The FE 24-70 F2.8 GM, with the unmistakeable, polished red square on the side. The focus? Tack sharp, see below. You can see the peach fuzz on the face of your subject. The manual focusing ring glides with your intentional touch, but stays in place for the natural movements of your breathing. The pearl finish on the body of the lens is low-profile and pairs with the Alpha line like steak and red wine--it's sexy, it's refined, it's Alpha. The 24-70 GM is for those who do not sacrifice quality while being unable to decide between having a wide-angle or a telephoto lens--it is the lens you take when you don't know what you'll need. The 24-70 mm is for those who want to thrive in chaos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The 24-70mmG Master is a Classic! After purchasing the A7 RIII on September 30 and shooting with 5 other native lenses (16-35mm/2.8 G Master, 24-105mm/4 G, 55mm/ 1.8, 35mm/1.4, and the 35mm/2.8 on both the A7 RIII and A7 RII, I made the decision to purchase the 24-70 G Master 2 weeks ago. On my first outing with the lens, I noticed how effortless it was to meter my compositions using my A7 RIII. The color was superlative...rich yet not oversaturated and natural...The sharpness was superb throughout all focal lengths...absolutely no vignetting...Although needless to say, but to report anyway, all the G Masters are built solidly and the weather sealing is immaculate ( and I'm speaking from prior experience of owning the 15-35mm/ 2.8 G Master)...There are no cutting corners or compromises in the build quality of any of these lenses...The Sony 24-70 G Master lens was not a work in progress...Sony pegged it with this one and no doubt it ranks among the absolute best, if not, the very best of all the 24-70mm Full Frame Lenses... Well worth the investment...Endorsed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharpest Lens There Is: Bought this for my A6000, and let me tell ya, it's almost too sharp. I know what everyone is thinking, can't take good pics with a A6000, but I'm telling you, is is fantastic. Now the bad part, no image stabilization, but you learn to adjust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens as expected I’m used to shooting with prime lenses but understand the benefits of a variable zoom lens. I always heard how sharp the 24-70 G Master lens is and I was not disappointed. It is tack sharp, and the bokeh is really smooth. I have been very happy with the performance of the lens. One thing is it’s a hefty lens but that just affirms the build quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lens In It's Class I had reviewed so many lenses and even owned the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 f4. This is the lens to have. Sharp, sharp sharp!!!! Color rendition is perfect. Don't waste your time searching for other brands if you own a Sony Camera. This is it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but worth it I have a number of Sony lenses. Also APS-C and full frame. I finally decided to upgrade to the top of the line. This is used for general photography outside, so landscapes and street. Also indoor event with room light. It handles all situations well and stands up to my Zeiss lenses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average Been using it for portraits for 6 months en the A7RIII thinking I would get sharp pictures as advertised. All of them are so soft even when using eye-AF. It's a big disappointment.
