Sony has introduced a new full-frame lens for their E-mount camera system: the FE 50mm F2.8 Macro lens. Macro photography has been described as extreme close-up photography. Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass dramatically reduces axial chromatic aberration and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings and close focusing distances.

Aspherical Lens Design

The field curvature is carefully corrected by aspherical lens design which dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Specially shaped ‘aspherical’ elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion.

7-Blade Circular Aperture

When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the background light sources appear blurred. While conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light, this ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens.
