Sony's Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens is a standard focal length prime lens that features a fast aperture in a compact, streamlined design. Offering a 82.5mm comparable APS-C focal length, its f/1.8 aperture is bright and quick, which allows you to capture more light and confidently shoot in dimly lit or tough lighting conditions. Sony applied a Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating. This works to combat the effects of ghosting and flares and leads to greater contrast and color fidelity.  This lens creates a 42.9° angle of view, a 1.64' focal length and accepts 49mm filters. 

Renowned Carl Zeiss contrast and resolution brings out the best in α7 series full frame E-mount bodies. The T* coating works with an innovative optical design to suppress internal reflections, for sublime contrast from highlights to deep blacks. In keeping with the Sonnar concept, a large F1.8 maximum aperture can produce beautiful full-frame background bokeh, but you also have the option of stopping down for extended depth-of-field. Linear motor driven internal focusing is smooth and quiet, and a dust and moisture resistant design ensures consistently reliable performance.

 ZA Series

Sony's ZA designation stands for Zeiss Alpha. These are Carl Zeiss lenses designed specifically for Sony cameras. They incorporate the historical level of quality and excellence associated with the Carl Zeiss name.

Aspherical Elements

Sony's aspherical lens design creates a more complex surface profile, while also reducing lens size and weight. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, translating to high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. The design further ensures consistent imaging performance throughout the entire focal range, while delivering incredible sharpness up to the periphery of the image. 

Carl Zeiss T* Anti-Reflective Coating

This lens features the Carl Zeiss T* (T-Star) coating, a process that virtually eliminates lens flare, internal reflection and light scattering that can occur. The T* coating contributes to outstanding image quality, with high contrast and excellent resolution right out to the image edges. Not simply applied to any lens, the T* symbol only appears on multi-element lenses in which the required performance has been achieved throughout the entire optical path, therefore guaranteeing the highest quality

Internal Focusing

Sony's Internal Focusing feature allows you to focus a lens without changing its size. With IF Lenses all optical movement is restricted to the interior of the lens barrel, providing for a lighter, more efficient design. Faster focusing is produced by a lighter and compact focusing lens group.

Circular Aperture

The circular aperture of this lens creates pleasing natural Bokeh effects. While Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocused points of light. This lens overcomes this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops.
