Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick-Release Base
The Wimberley Head is a specialized gimbal tripod head for telephoto lenses. Its gimbal head type design allows you to easily support and manipulate very large lenses for tracking birds and animals. The WH-200 Head II offers the same stiffness, capacity, and fluid movement of the old version in a more compact and lightweight package. The head’s redesigned panning base has zero play, and the pan locking knob has been moved to the side of the head, thus allowing the user to easily operate both knobs with the same hand. Its soft-touch knobs provide a more comfortable grip and perform better when using gloves.
Tripod Compatibility
The Wimberley Head Version II fits virtually any tripod, monopod, window or ground pod with a 2 inch or larger flat mounting platform and 3/8-inch-16 mounting stud. The bottom mounting surface of the panning spool is approximately 1.94 inches in diameter. Tripods with center columns are not recommended because they tend to introduce additional flex into the system, which can compromise image quality especially at longer focal lengths. If your tripod has a center column, it is recommended that you do not extend the column when using the Wimberley Head.
Lens Compatibility
The Wimberley Head Version II adjusts to fit virtually any telephoto lens with a rotation collar. It is ideally suited for large lenses (300mm f/2.8 or bigger). Some lenses may require the use of a replacement foot to balance properly on a gimbal head due to the fact they have relatively taller stock feet. The Wimberley Head II has a built-in, Arca-Swiss style quick-release clamp. In order to use the head, your lens must be equipped with an Arca-Swiss style lens plate.
