The Sony ECM-W3 Wireless Microphone comprises two microphone-transmitters featuring high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio microphone units, and a dual-channel receiver. The transmitter and receiver process audio digitally and transmit it wirelessly, allowing the capture and recording of two speakers' voices with superb clarity and low noise.
High-Quality Digital Sound Recording
High signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) microphone units are integrated into the two combined microphone-transmitters, enabling clear voice recording with low noise.
Digital Transmission
Connecting the receiver to a camera from Sony that supports the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe, such as one of the α series digital interchangeable-lens cameras or vlog cameras, allows the digital audio signal output from the receiver to be recorded directly by the camera, enabling high-quality sound recording with minimal noise contamination.
Noise-Suppressing Filter Functions
A noise cut filter using digital signal processing to effectively remove noise, and a low cut filter that reduces noise in the low-frequency range, are provided on the microphone side. Less noise removal is needed post- production, making workflow more efficient.
Compatible with Multi Interface Shoe
The receiver can be easily attached to a Sony camera that supports the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe such as one of the α series digital interchangeable-lens cameras or vlog cameras without the need of cables, resulting in immediate sound acquisition and avoiding interference with the vari-angle LCD monitor even if it is horizontally opened while shooting. This results in better mobility and freedom to choose different shooting angles.
The Wireless Benefit
It comprises of two microphone-transmitter and a dual-channel receiver allowing wireless capture of two speakers’ voices. With Bluetooth 5.3 (Bluetooth Low Energy) and LC3plus codecs providing low power consumption, low latency, and better sound quality, you can record from a distance of up to 492 feet (150 m) in clear line-of-sight locations. Battery size has also been reduced thanks to the superior power saving features.
Safety and Attenuator Features
With its safety function, the ECM-W3 can simultaneously record two audio signals, one at a normal volume while the other 20 dB lower. This reduces the risk of clipping, common during loud recordings. Additionally, an attenuator function is provided to let the recording level to be set on three values depending on the audio volume.
Microphone Input and Output Support
On the microphone’s side is a 3.5 mm mini jack (monaural) to function as an external microphone input terminal, and on the receiver’s side is a 3.5 mm mini jack (stereo) that functions as an audio output terminal. Sound acquisition can also be done through a stereo-compatible lavalier microphone. Sound output can also be done to devices that are not equipped with a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe.
USB Digital Output from Receiver
The receiver can also transmit digital audio output of 48 kHz per 24 bit using a USB cable to PCs, smartphones, and also to USB audio input compatible devices for recording.
Compact and Lightweight Build
Due to the microphone transmitter’s compact and lightweight design, it provides excellent mobility and portability, making it easy to carry while you’re on the move or while shooting. They are also resistant to dust and moisture, making them ideal for the outdoors.
Get Status Notifications
With the LINK lamp, you can know the status between of communication between the microphone and receiver and avoid recording errors. You can also know the battery status with the POWER lamps on the microphone and receiver.
Get Battery Assistance
The receiver gets direct power supply from the α series digital interchangeable-lens cameras or vlog cameras to the receiver.
Backup Charging Case
The microphone-transmitter is accompanied by a small charging case, letting you continue shooting without getting concerned about diminishing battery power. It can last continuously for approximately six hours on a full charge.
Wind Screen Included
The included wind screen can be used to reduce the wind noise that may occur when the microphone is impacted by strong wind or breath. This allows stable and clear recording of the speaker's voice, even when shooting outdoors.
