PXW-FX9V Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM Full-Frame Camera System with 6-35mm T3.1 G Full-Frame Cinema Lens

Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM Full-Frame Camera System

Discover PXW-FX9, Sony’s Full-Frame Camera System with Fast Hybrid AF, Dual Base ISO, S-Cinetone color science, and XDCAM card support. Create beautiful 4K HDR imagery from oversampling a 6K Full-frame Exmor R sensor with 15+ stop dynamic range and Dual Base ISO. Capture the impossible with a full-frame Electronic Variable ND and Fast Hybrid AF that will track your subject with unprecedented speed and accuracy. The Fast Hybrid AF covers around 91% of the frame with 561 AF points and face detection for accurate focusing.

Full-Frame Exmor R Sensor

The camera’s full-frame 6K sensor provides superb recording in DCI 4K1, Ultra HD and HD resolutions. Powerful image processing with debayering and down-sampling ensures image quality beyond the limits of conventional Super 35mm sensors. The back-illuminated CMOS image sensor also uses Sony’s Exmor R technology for improved sensitivity and noise reduction. Compared to a 4K Super 35mm sensor, the FX9’s 6K sensor has over twice the surface area while providing a wider angle of view and shallower depth of field.

15+ Stops Dynamic Range

The Sony PXW-FX9 offers an exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range for unprecedented creative freedom in color grading and post. You just need to concentrate on framing the scene leaving the rest on the camera to capture every nuance and detail using either 4K 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording or 16-bit RAW external recording. In grading, colorists can find color and detail beyond the normal viewing abilities of the camera operator to create a final image that exactly portrays the mood of the scene.

Dual Base ISO of 800/4000

FX9 features a base sensitivity of ISO 800, providing the optimal dynamic range for typical documentary applications such as shooting outside or in brightly lit interiors. A secondary high base sensitivity of ISO 4000 excels in low light conditions such as early morning and evening shoots while maintaining superb image quality. ISO 4000 is also ideal whenever you’re using slow lenses. Combining Dual Base ISO with the camera’s electronic variable ND Filter provides superb creative control in almost any shooting environment, with truly next generation responsiveness to changing conditions.

Electronic Variable ND Filter

Realize even greater creative control with Sony’s unique built-in electronic variable neutral density (ND) filter for professional full-frame camcorders. Set to Auto or adjust filter density manually in smooth increments from 1/4 to 1/128 as you shoot, for perfectly exposed images without affecting depth of field as lighting conditions change. Use higher density settings with a slower shutter speed for breathtaking artistic effects.

Selectable Frame Rates in both Full-Frame and Super 35

Choose your desired frame-rate from 1 to 180 fps for impressive quick and slow-motion footage. The Sony PXW-FX9 creates an immersive image with a wide angle look and shallower depth of field provided by its full-frame sensor in combination with quick and slow motion. The camcorder also offers a quality priority setting that maximizes full HD slow motion image quality with advanced oversampling technology.

S Cinetone Cinematic Color Science

S-Cinetone is the default look of PXW-FX9 that’s tuned to meet the requirements of today’s content creators with rich mid-range colors, alluring facial tones and a softer tonal look – developed with the same expertise as Sony’s world-leading VENICE digital cinematography camera. S-Cinetone means that straight out of the camera your content looks fresh and vivid, with subjects that really stand out while retaining plenty of latitude in post-production thanks to the high performance full-frame image sensor.

Fast Hybrid AF with Face Detection

Effortlessly track fast moving subjects with pin-sharp focus, even when using wide lens aperture settings to maintain a shallow depth of field with the camera’s full-frame sensor. Developed by Sony’s alpha camera engineers, enhanced Fast Hybrid AF combines phase detection AF for fast, accurate subject tracking with contrast AF for exceptional focus accuracy. In addition, Face Detection intelligently recognizes and locks on to human faces.

Image Stabilization Correction

Advanced image stabilization information means even handheld footage can be transformed with Sony Catalyst Browse/Catalyst Prepare software in post-production to look as smooth as if it were shot with a gimbal. Unlike in-camera or lens stabilization, meta data generated by camcorder’s built-in gyro allows you to creatively choose the balance between the level of shake compensation and the resolution of trimmed 4K imagery.

16-Bit RAW Output

16-bit RAW offers a phenomenal increase in post-production creative freedom to fully exploit Sony FX9’s exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range. FX9 supports export of 16-bit RAW at either 4K or 2K resolution using the optional XDCA-FX9 extension unit with a single BNC cable connection to compatible external RAW recorders.

4-Channel Audio Input and Recording

The FX9 Camera System offers superb audio capabilities with independent control dials for each channel. In applications such as interview, 4-channel audio recording enables simultaneous use of an external microphone for recording ambient sounds, the built-in microphone for voice memos by the operator, and two optional UWP series wireless microphones for voice of interviewer and interviewee.

Variety of Outputs

PXW-FX9 is equipped with various outputs including a 12G-SDI and a HDMI for 4K output. Also, it has a 3G-SDI for HD output to expand its monitoring flexibility. For multi-camera operation, GENLOCK and TC in/out terminals are available.

Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe

Sony’s flexible Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe provides power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching with compatible Sony accessories.

Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G Full-Frame Cinema Lens

The FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G Full-Frame Cinema Lens is perfectly suitable with Sony’s full-frame sensor camera line-up, including FX9, VENICE and FX6. It offers an advanced E-mount performance and accuracy delivering amazing edge-to-edge sharpness. Its advanced optical design employs XA lens elements for superb image quality. A constant wide T3.1 (f/2.8) aperture and 11-blade circular aperture allow for outstanding defocused bokeh. Featuring traditional cinema lens operability, the lens offers a three-ring operation including a de-clickable IRIS for smooth exposure and depth of field control, a direct linear focus ring for precise manual focus and a zoom ring. In addition, the lens comes with an advanced auto-exposure and AI-based autofocus technology with additional benefits of servo zoom. Hybrid AF provides Real-time AF and Real-time Eye AF tracking expanding your creative expression and operability in almost any shooting environment.

Extreme Aspherical Optical Design

The lens’ optical design utilizes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements with extremely high surface precision that work in combination with three aspherical elements to reduce aberrations, effectively controlling distortion. As a result, you get ultimate resolution throughout the entire zoom and aperture range.

ED Glass Minimizes Chromatic Aberration

In addition, two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements take care of the axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration, maximizing resolution and bokeh with minimal fringing or unnatural coloration.

Nano AntiReflective Coating

Sony’s Nano AntiReflective Coating technology suppresses internal reflections minimizing flare and ghosting for clarity, even in difficult outdoor lighting conditions. This nano coating provides accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images with lifelike detailing and gradation.

Two Direct Drive Supersonic Wave Motor (DDSSM)

High-resolution cameras demand absolute focus precision. With a floating mechanism driven by two DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor) actuators helps maintain outstanding resolution from infinity to close focus and especially effective when recording motion. This Wave Motor allows for pinpoint precision, offering accurate, fast and quiet autofocus.

Constant T3.1 (f/2.8) Max Aperture

Constant T3.1 (f/2.8) max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field regardless of the focal range to which you zoom. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, light sources appear blurred. This bokeh effect is enhanced with an 11-blade circular aperture design with flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light.

Instant Auto/Manual Focus Selection

You can instantly switch between auto and manual focus control. Just move the focus ring forward for autofocus or pull backward to engage manual focus. The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. Apart from the Focus Hold, the lens offers custom functions like Super-35/full-frame select, Picture Profiles, and Peaking function.

Robust Reliability

Lens mount sealing maximizes resistance to dust and moisture for reliable operation in challenging environmental conditions. Furthermore for professional control and convenience, details like rubberized rings that are easy to operate in low temperatures, customizable focus hold button and a hood lock button have been added to the lens design.

Compatible with Cinema Lens Accessory

The Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G Full-Frame Cinema Lens has an industry standard 0.8mm pitch gear and 114mm lens diameter, providing compatibility with a wide range of accessories include matte boxes and follow focus systems.
