SE Electronics Voodoo VR1 Unidirectional Passive Ribbon Microphone with Shock-Mount and Case (Black)
The SE Electronics Voodoo VR1 Ribbon Microphone comes in a
black color and boasts a 2.5-inch aluminum ribbon diaphragm and a broad
frequency response ranging from 20Hz to 18 kHz. With a sensitivity of 1.6mV/Pa
and a figure-8 polar pattern, it offers a detailed and natural recording of
acoustic instruments and guitar cabs. Previously, only SE's Rupert Neve
collaboration, the RNR1, achieved this expansive frequency response. The Voodoo
series accomplishes this through custom transformers, a Rupert Neve-designed
circuit, and a unique mechanical device by Siwei Zou, the company CEO, coupled with
a hand-tensioned ribbon crafted by specialized technicians in SE's capsule
room. The result is a superbly detailed, open, and natural recording of
acoustic instruments and guitar cabs.
A Secret Weapon
The SE Electronics VR1 Microphone is your new ‘secret weapon’ ribbon mic,
providing all the midrange magic of a traditional ribbon without sacrificing
the edge of your high frequencies. The VR1 ribbon microphone from SE marks a
new era for ribbon mic technology, achieving full-range frequency response using
a clever mechanical device designed by Siwei Zou, the company CEO, and a
hand-tensioned ribbon constructed by the highly specialized technicians in SE’s
capsule room. The result is a superbly detailed, open, and natural recording of
acoustic instruments and guitar cabs. The VR1's ability to perform - coupled
with its unique look - has already made it a secret weapon for top musicians
and engineers worldwide.
Custom Ribbon Enclosure for Extended Frequency Response
Unlike traditional ribbons, which can sometimes sound very dull at high
frequencies, the VR1's clever mechanical design helps the mic achieve an
extended frequency response that preserves the bite and edge of your guitar
cabs or cymbals, while still smoothing out any harshness.
Versatile Custom Shock Mount
The VR1's custom-built shock mount allows not only for isolation from
mechanical vibration but also for versatile, flexible mic placement. The lower
portion of the mount can be centered inside the mount for extra protection or flipped
outside the mount so the VR1 can reach underneath a snare or be pressed flat
against a speaker grille cloth.
Wooden Case and Accessories
Each VR1 comes complete inside a wooden presentation box and includes a mic
clip, mic stand thread adapter, and custom shock mount.
Handcrafted Ribbon to Sound Better
As with all of SE's ribbons and true condensers, the VR1’s ribbon element
is handcrafted and hand-tuned by skilled technicians in the factory. This is
almost unheard of for affordable microphones and is a great point of pride for
SE.
